Shamo Abasov was born in 1955 in the city of Jabrayil. From 1970 to 1974, the young artist studied at the A. Azimzade State Art School, and in 1978–1984 he continued his education at the Leningrad Higher School of Art and Industry named after V. Mukhina, Faculty of Ceramics. Since 1986, he has been a member of the Artists’ Unions of Azerbaijan and the USSR.
Shamo Abasov is regarded as one of the artists with a distinctive individual style within the modern Azerbaijani school of painting. At the beginning of his creative career, he worked primarily in decorative ceramics. Through the works he presented at international creative workshops, symposiums, and exhibitions, he gained the admiration of audiences and was highly praised by specialists. Years later, he returned to his beloved art form—painting—and achieved even greater recognition as the painter Shamo Abasov.
